NOVO MESTO SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS, HIGHER PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
According to the results of our graduate employment survey, almost all graduates of the Higher Vocational Study Programmes in Media Production and Business Management secure employment within six months of graduation. Many students are already professionally active during their studies, either as self-employed professionals or as employees in a variety of organisations.
The College is particularly proud that many employers offer permanent employment to students who have completed their Practical Training within their organisations. Employers especially value our graduates for their strong practical skills and their ability to work independently after only a short induction period.
Students often receive employment opportunities while still studying, as local companies actively seek graduates from our programmes.
Graduates of the Higher Vocational Study Programme in Business Management enjoy excellent employment prospects across virtually every sector, as organisations of all sizes require qualified business professionals.
Graduates of the Higher Vocational Study Programme in Media Production frequently pursue successful careers as self-employed professionals or freelancers.
Admission to the Higher Vocational Study Programme in Business Management requires the successful completion of upper secondary education with either the General Matura or the Vocational Matura.
For admission to the Higher Vocational Study Programme in Media Production, applicants must also successfully complete an aptitude assessment. The assessment includes the submission of a media project from one or more of the following fields: photography, graphic design, video, animation, web production, or audio production, followed by a presentation of the work before the assessment committee.
The committee evaluates the originality of the concept, creativity, and technical execution of the submitted project.
If the number of applications exceeds the available places, the aptitude assessment accounts for 40% of the total selection score used for admission.
Applicants who complete the aptitude assessment receive a grade from 1 to 5, where grade 1 indicates that the assessment has not been passed.
An aptitude assessment completed at another Higher Vocational College is not recognised. The result of the aptitude assessment is valid for one year.
The Higher Vocational College at the School of Economics Novo mesto is a small, student-centred institution with more than 20 years of experience in higher vocational education. The College offers study programmes that build upon the upper secondary programmes in Media Technician and Economic Technician, while also welcoming graduates from other upper secondary education programmes.
We are proud to say that business and media go hand in hand at our College. This is reflected in the projects we carry out and in our participation in international projects, through which students broaden their knowledge of entrepreneurship, media, sustainable development, and digital and social competences.
Our lecturers are experienced industry professionals who bring the latest knowledge and practical expertise into the classroom. Teaching takes place in a creative environment with a strong emphasis on practical learning. The relationship between lecturers and students is relaxed and supportive, and students often highlight that they are treated as individuals rather than simply as numbers.
The College is well equipped and offers modern learning facilities that support contemporary teaching methods. An important added value of studying at our College is our close cooperation with employers, where students complete 20 weeks of Practical Training during their studies. To further prepare students for employment, we organise a series of career preparation workshops entitled Preparing for the Workplace.
In addition to gaining valuable professional experience during their Practical Training, students have the opportunity to establish relationships with potential employers that often lead directly to employment. According to our graduate survey, most of our graduates secure employment within six months of graduation.
Students complete their Practical Training in organisations of their own choice. If a student has difficulty finding a placement, the Practical Training Coordinator provides assistance in securing a suitable host organisation. The Coordinator guides students throughout the entire process, and both students and workplace mentors are provided with a Practical Training Guide containing all the necessary information and instructions.
The Practical Training process is divided into three stages:
Before Practical Training – meeting between students and the Practical Training Coordinator.
During Practical Training – individual meetings involving the student, the workplace mentor, and the Practical Training Coordinator.
After Practical Training – preparation of a project assignment and completion of the Practical Training examination.
Business Management students complete their Practical Training in a wide range of organisations, including public sector institutions, small private businesses such as accounting firms, larger companies, and non-governmental organisations.
Media Production students undertake Practical Training in a variety of media organisations, including television and radio stations, newspapers, printing companies, photography and videography studios, as well as organisations outside the media sector that recognise the importance of visual communication in engaging with their customers.
Students who wish to gain international experience may also complete their Practical Training in other European countries through the Erasmus+ Programme.
Students who are already employed in a relevant field may apply for the recognition of their Practical Training based on their professional experience.
