ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
HIGHER PROFESSIONAL COLLEGE VELENJE
Applicants are eligible for admission to a Higher Vocational Study Programme if they:
- have successfully completed the General Matura or the Vocational Matura, or hold an equivalent qualification obtained under previous education regulations; or
- have passed a master craftsman, foreman, or managerial examination, have at least three years of relevant work experience, and have passed examinations in general education subjects at the level prescribed for the Vocational Matura in upper secondary technical education.
Elective Modules
At the beginning of each academic year, the College determines which elective modules and elective subjects will be offered during that academic year.
Progression Requirements
Students may progress to the second year if they have successfully completed first-year modules, subjects, and Practical Training (including practical classes, seminar assignments, projects, examinations, and other assessed coursework) amounting to 45 ECTS credits. All practical classes and Practical Training requirements must be completed in full.
Students may repeat a year if they have successfully completed study requirements and Practical Training from that year amounting to at least 20 ECTS credits, provided that all Practical Training requirements have been completed.

Computer Science and Informatics
The Higher Vocational Study Programme in Computer Science and Informatics prepares students for careers in one of the most dynamic and creative professional fields.
In today’s information society, information systems and digital technologies are essential in every sector. The programme equips students with the knowledge and practical skills required to solve complex problems using modern information and communication technologies while keeping pace with continuous technological innovation.
It is ideal for students who are interested in information technology and wish to apply the latest developments in computer science and information systems in professional practice.
Knowledge and Skills
Graduates will be able to:
- provide technical support and consultancy for information and communication technology (ICT) users;
- install, maintain, and service ICT equipment;
- design and implement computer networks;
- install and administer servers;
- design, develop, and administer databases;
- design, develop, and implement integrated software solutions;
- develop static and dynamic websites;
- introduce new ICT solutions into business environments; and
- train and support ICT users.
Electrical Engineering
The Higher Vocational Study Programme in Electrical Engineering prepares students for careers in a field that underpins modern technology and industrial development.
The programme combines theoretical knowledge with practical engineering skills in electrical engineering, automation, communication technologies, renewable energy, and smart energy management.
Knowledge and Skills
Graduates will be able to:
- solve engineering challenges in industrial automation, communication technologies, and robotic systems;
- design and implement electrical installations, control systems, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and building energy monitoring systems;
- apply legislation, standards, technical regulations, certification requirements, and quality assurance systems relevant to electrical engineering, robotics, communication technologies, and building energy management;
- evaluate electrical engineering equipment and engineering design solutions; and
- design, install, monitor, and remotely control smart electrical installations and Internet of Things (IoT) systems.
Mechatronics
The Higher Vocational Study Programme in Mechatronics prepares students for careers in one of today’s most innovative engineering disciplines.
Mechatronic systems combine mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science, forming the technological foundation of modern automated production systems.
Knowledge and Skills
Graduates will be able to:
- solve technical problems relating to mechatronic systems in industrial environments;
- design and implement basic mechatronic systems and devices;
- apply legislation, standards, technical regulations, certification requirements, and quality assurance systems relevant to mechatronics;
- monitor technological developments and implement innovative solutions in practice; and
- make sound business and technical decisions while responding effectively to changing market demands.
Geotechnology and Mining
The Higher Vocational Study Programme in Geotechnology and Mining prepares students for careers in the extraction of mineral resources and the planning and management of mining operations.
The programme places strong emphasis on occupational health and safety, environmental responsibility, and the application of modern mining technologies.
Knowledge and Skills
Graduates will be able to:
- solve practical engineering problems in geotechnology and mining, including mineral extraction, underground construction, and mining operations;
- plan geotechnological and mining processes while meeting safety, environmental, and sustainability requirements;
- apply legislation, standards, technical regulations, certification requirements, and quality assurance systems relevant to geotechnology and mining;
- use specialised measuring instruments required in mineral extraction and mining operations; and
- evaluate technologies, engineering solutions, equipment, and products used in geotechnology and mining.
Hospitality and Tourism
The Higher Vocational Study Programme in Hospitality and Tourism prepares students for careers in one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing industries.
The programme develops professional knowledge of hospitality, gastronomy, tourism, and customer service while providing students with the practical skills needed to organise, manage, and promote tourism products and services.
Knowledge and Skills
Graduates will be able to:
- plan, manage, and organise tourism activities and hospitality operations;
- demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of gastronomy, culinary traditions, tourism products, and natural attractions;
- apply legislation and regulations relevant to the hospitality and tourism sectors;
- organise and manage operational processes in hospitality and tourism organisations;
- organise food and wine events, evaluate tourism destinations, and apply professional guiding skills;
- plan events, coordinate guest entertainment programmes, and integrate complementary tourism activities into tourism products;
- develop tourism products and organise professional events;
- independently manage hotel housekeeping departments; and
- organise, supervise, and monitor housekeeping operations within hotels.
