WORK-BASED LEARNING
Practical Training (hereinafter referred to as PT) is a very important component of the overall educational process for students, the labour market, the educational institution, and the wider community. PT is a highly effective form of work-based learning that facilitates the transition from education and training to employment. Through Practical Training, students acquire the skills required by employers and the labour market, while at the same time contributing to the competitiveness and productivity of organisations.
The organisation of Practical Training differs for students with relevant professional experience (recognition of Practical Training) and for students who have not yet gained appropriate work experience. Students are generally expected to find and select an organisation in which to complete their Practical Training. The placement must be undertaken in a field related to the study programme in which the student is enrolled. If students are unable to secure a suitable placement independently, the College assists them in finding an appropriate organisation.
The scope of Practical Training is determined by the individual Higher Vocational Study Programme and its catalogue of knowledge and competences. As a general guideline, students should have at least two years of relevant professional experience, or, as a compulsory component of the study programme, successfully complete Practical Training in the range of 360 to 400 hours.
